Political Research Survey Case Study
A large aircraft manufacturer was considering moving its corporate offices to
a city in northern Illinois. Before making any investments in the move, the
company decided to evaluate the local political climate to judge the likelihood
that the relocation would be welcomed by local residents and if any corporate
tax breaks might be available.
NBRI was hired to conduct two surveys: one survey to evaluate the current
political climate; then, if necessary, a follow up survey to judge the change
after an information campaign was conducted to educate residents on the
positive economic impact of moving the operation to their city.
The initial survey revealed that residents would be receptive to an influx of
new jobs providing any negative impact to the community would be taken into
consideration by our Client. However, the initial survey also revealed that
local residents would not look favorably upon offering corporate tax breaks
to entice our Client to move to their city. History indicated that therefore
the city council would be unlikely to approve any corporate tax breaks to
sweeten the deal.
The follow up survey revealed that there were no significant positive changes
in attitudes after the information campaign.
As a result, the company asked us to conduct the same research in a city in
north Texas. This research indicated that the move by our Client was favored
by residents and that the likelihood of corporate tax breaks was high (which
proved to be true). Our Client subsequently moved their corporate offices to
the city in north Texas where they were welcomed with open arms by the
residents and the local government.

Employment Trends Give Workers a Shot of Confidence - The
American worker is brimming with self-assurance, and there are a host of good
reasons. Unemployment continues to be low at 4.5 percent, while opportunities
continue to grow as technological advancements and a global economy opens new
doors.
The most recent Employee Confidence Index released by recruiting and staffing
agency Spherion showed that the majority of U.S. workers remained confident in
their personal job situations. Coupled with a solid economy, workplace trends
in most sectors have tended to favor the American worker, who has seen
increased demand and competition for their services.
Surveys May Head Off Potential Suits - Bullying
bosses are in the sights of a handful of legislators, who contend that employees
should be allowed to sue their supervisors for being rude, abusive, obnoxious, or
basically a combination of all three. At least four state
legislatures - Vermont, New York, New Jersey and Washington - are considering
bills that would allow employees to seek damages for having to endure an "abusive
work environment."
